OFFERTON HATTERS WI WELCOMES YOU
Welcome to our WI. We hope you will feel happy with us. We are a fairly new group as WI's grow (the WI as a whole was 100 years old in 2015). Here are a few bits of information you may find interesting.
We were established in 2014 at St. Albans Church, Offerton, Stockport and our meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month 8pm - 10pm. At these meetings we often have speakers, who entertain us on a variety of topics - our evenings also include a social time for tea and cake and sometimes a light-hearted quiz. We try to have something of interest for everyone. In addition to the monthly meetings, we join together for a number of activities, both monthly and occasional. This is a sample of the activities we have held:
Cheshire Federation The WI is split into different Federations (area) and we are part of Cheshire. Cheshire run activities for all of the Cheshire groups, to which we get invited. You'll find details about these in our newsletter. The Cheshire Show is the big annual event. The WI have a marquee there and members are encouraged to enter both as a team and a group. The Pennine Group Offerton Hatters is part of a local larger organisation called the Pennine Group who meet at Woodley Civic Hall. We are invited to their meetings and events which are held at various times during the year. Our Pennine Rep is Pam Suggitt. Where does your Membership money go? In the first year all WI's keep all the membership money to help them get themselves established (rent, paying for speakers, stationery, audit of books etc.). However, after that, we keep a proportion - a proportion goes to the National Federation and a proportion goes to Cheshire. If you wish, you can become a member of another WI and become what is known as "dual" member. Newsletter We now have our own newsletter. Not all WI's have a newsletter but it is a great way of keeping people informed - its sometimes difficult to get through everything on the night of the meeting. WI Life As a member of the WI your details have been passed to Headquarters in London. You will therefore receive a monthly magazine entitled "WI Life" (even the Queen gets that as she a member of Sandringham WI) |
